\"hive<\/a>It\u2019s Cancer season, Crabs and Crab Lovers! If Cancer season had a soundtrack it would be that of waves gently lapping on an ocean beach. And it\u2019s summer, when the berries are sweet and ripe and the Sun warms the soul, when nostalgia beckons from the corner of our memories, this is the perfect season to seek soul-contentedness and happiness. Because when it comes down to it, in a sweet and sorrowful way, summer stimulates our desire for happiness – be it a nostalgia for happiness past, born of memory, or the happiness we want but don’t have.<\/p>\n

Yet what if we don\u2019t know if we\u2019re happy? It may sound tragic, but truthfully, who among us hasn\u2019t been numbed out by the toll life takes on the psyche? Life can be demanding, exhausting, brutal on the soul. Just ask anyone who is in the middle of a divorce, life-threatening illness, family crisis, or is laying a family member to rest, whether they are happy. They may look at you like you have antlers growing out of your head, and they\u2019d be justified. No one expects anyone right in the thick of life’s trials to be in the happy place.<\/p>\n

What I\u2019m talking about is a numbness that keeps us from happy, the kind that develops over the course of a busy life, full of demands, a life with little time for resting, for feeling and healing. Take a couple raising children, both working, neither having time for their self, let alone for each other, \u201cnever enough time or money\u201d for a vacation or night out. Or the person who has experienced abuse and who didn\u2019t find the lily pad they needed to heal so soldiered on in life, doing their best, also finding happiness as elusive as a unicorn.<\/span><\/p>\n

My heart hurts as I write this. Life is difficult and exhausting, battering on both the psyche and heart. The Moon (and the archetype of Cancer), knows that to honor our own moon is to make rest, care and recovery psychic necessities — as important as food, sunshine and water. To even know whether we are hurting or happy, we need to make the time and space to feel our feelings: to sit, with our self, on a rock at our favorite spot. We may need to go to the beach the next town over, or book a ticket to Cancun. We may need to visit our best friend, the one who knows us better than anyone. Or we may need to take more drastic measures, like finally call that therapist we\u2019ve been meaning to call for months, or finally rent that studio or office space we need to feel sane, happy (every Crab needs a protective shell). In this lifetime, our Moon, and the archetype of Cancer, knows that without the means and space to feel and process our feelings, to recover our psychic energy, to heal, we won\u2019t get a shot at happy.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s a grand trine in the sky right now and along with some reprieve from the bumps and dings of the harsher planetary activity (the Uranus-Pluto square), presents a cosmic opportunity for emotional healing, deep acceptance and forward motion in the areas of our life those planets are transiting (look for transiting Jupiter in Cancer, Saturn in Scorpio, Neptune in Pisces at 5 degrees respectively, in your chart). Healing lunar energy is also strong at this Cancer New Moon. The moon holds our feelings, our secret sorrows and our happiness. Is it any wonder they belong to the same planet? When we aren\u2019t getting the rest, care, emotional ventilation, reprieve, and psychic space we need, we get weepy, grumpy, unhappy; Mother moon is trying to tell us something. So book that ticket or make that call. Hire a sitter, light some candles and get to know each other again. With Jupiter newly in Cancer, the time is right to spare no expense on your emotional healing, rest and recovery. Every self-care comfort, every healing whim you indulge over this next year will pay dividends in happiness for you.<\/strong>\u00a0Dear friends, I sincerely hope that right now you are blissed out on ripe summer blueberries and sunsets at this wish-fulfilling grand trine and new moon time. But if you are not, if you have been strong for too long, may you cry… then may you heal.<\/p>\n
