Some people view eclipses as tsunamis of change, sweeping away everything in their path. And if an eclipse impacts your relationship? It&#8217;s true that all relationships (even long-term, settled ones) go through transformations. Eclipses are near the top of the potency scale for influences that trigger these changes, and <b>their energy often signals the beginning or end of a relationship cycle<\/b>. But as always, these changes must be read in the context of how and where your natal chart is impacted.<\/p>\n<h2>The Impact of Eclipses<\/h2>\n<p>A Solar Eclipse is like a supercharged New Moon, indicating a new beginning. A Lunar eclipse acts like a powerful Full Moon, triggering a culmination or ending. There are various theories on the timeframe of an eclipse&#8217;s influence. One theory is that the effects last for the duration between two eclipses of the same type. In other words, what you feel during one Solar Eclipse will last until the next Solar Eclipse. Another theory states that the effects of an eclipse can be felt up to 3 years after the event. I find that it varies from person to person (some people are much more sensitive to an eclipse&#8217;s energy). But <b>eclipses are so strong that most astrologers will agree the <em>events<\/em> can occur up to 1 week before or after the eclipse, and the <em>impact<\/em> will be felt throughout the year it occurs<\/b>. However, know that an eclipse will only trigger existing potentials in your love life. If your marriage is rock solid, a Lunar Eclipse in your 7th House is not going to cause a divorce. But if your relationship is on shaky ground, the push from an eclipse may accelerate an ending.<\/p>\n<h2>Lunar Eclipse: The Release<\/h2>\n<p><div style=\"float:left;margin-right:20px\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\"><!--\ngoogle_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1123809225180052\";\n\/* rectangle in post *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"6756871618\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 300;\ngoogle_ad_height = 250;\n\/\/-->\n<\/script><br \/>\n<script type=\"text\/javascript\"\nsrc=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\">\n<\/script><\/div>\n<p>For example, Brit has been dating Steven for five years. Things have been tense lately. She wants to move things to the next level (marriage) but he&#8217;s not so sure. Brit&#8217;s 7th House cusp is in Scorpio. She wants the whole relationship package: total commitment, or nothing. A Lunar Eclipse (in Scorpio) falls in her 7th House. This means the death (Scorpio) of her relationship, right? Maybe, maybe not. The eclipse will also be forming a supportive trine to her Moon in Cancer, so the culmination that happens will feel (Moon) right to her. She&#8217;ll give Steve an ultimatum, and her needs (Moon) will be met by doing this. Whether the &#8220;ending&#8221; will be the finish of their relationship, or an ending to Steven&#8217;s indecision (if he decides to propose to her) depends on his chart, plus the transits and progression impacting both of them. But the relationship will not be the same after this eclipse.<\/p>\n<p>The key with a Lunar Eclipse is that it will trigger a release of what&#8217;s been building. The aspects that the eclipse makes to your natal planets (within a 6 degree orb) will tell you more about how it will impact your relationship. Harmonious aspects (like trines or sextiles) generally suggest that events will feel supportive. Challenging aspects (squares, oppositions and conjunctions) suggest the change will be more difficult to swallow. For example, let&#8217;s say the Scorpio Lunar Eclipse also squares Brit&#8217;s natal Saturn (while still trining her Moon). Emotionally, she&#8217;ll feel like she&#8217;s doing what&#8217;s necessary, but the square to her Saturn might emphasize feelings of rejection (and make it more likely that this eclipse will trigger the end of her relationship).<\/p>\n<div class=\"infobox\">\u203a\u203a <strong>Try our <a href=\"http:\/\/sasstrology.com\/transit-reports\">transit reports<\/a> for a personalized long-term forecast<\/strong>.<\/div>\n<h2>Solar Eclipse: In with the New<\/h2>\n<p>But enough with the endings. Solar Eclipses (that impact your relationship) will always introduce something brand new. This will be a fresh development, instead of a culmination. Let&#8217;s look at Mike and Sarah, who have been married for ten years. They decide that Mike will start a home business, while Sarah continues to work outside the home. Mike launches his business during a Capricorn Solar Eclipse that falls on his 4th House (home and family) cusp. It signifies a major new beginning that involves work, structure and business (Capricorn). So far, so good. But the eclipse also hits his 7th House Venus (in Aries) with a hard square. Venus represents his wife, and the money in their relationship. In the months after the eclipse, Mike struggles to get his business off the ground, and this creates tension (square) in his marriage (7th House Venus). Sarah questions his handling of the finances, and Mike reacts with anger.<\/p>\n<p>This will be an ongoing theme between them throughout the year. But their first fight will probably occur during the following Full Moon. Remember, a Solar Eclipse is simply a powerful New Moon. So if you&#8217;re wondering when you&#8217;ll start to see the results of a Solar Eclipse, look to the next Full Moon. Also, eclipses often come in pairs, with the next one sometimes (but not always) occurring in the opposite sign. So if a Lunar Eclipse occurs in Cancer a few weeks after the Capricorn Solar Eclipse, there might be an even bigger blowout between Mike and Sarah, as emotions (Cancer) boil over. Mike will need to stay on his toes and address issues as they come up (rather than letting them build to volcanic proportions and erupt during the Lunar Eclipse.)<\/p>\n<p>How does Mike handle this? Mike&#8217;s Venus in Aries is concerned with moving forward in matters of love and money (Aries is a Cardinal sign). So while the square from the Solar Eclipse was stressful, the tension gives him the initiative to keep working (Capricorn) on his business and his marriage. After a rocky start, things smooth out for them. But let&#8217;s say Mike&#8217;s 4th House cusp is in Taurus, and his 7th House Venus is in Leo. Leo is a proud, Fixed sign that&#8217;s not open to change. If a Solar eclipse falls on his 4th House cusp in Taurus (and squares his Venus) the energy will make him dig his heels in. His pride will be wounded by Sarah&#8217;s questions about his business capabilities, and the tensions will drag on. The square to his Venus will probably not be enough to end the marriage, but changes will be much slower in coming.<\/p>\n<p>When looking at a couple that have been together for many years, it&#8217;s interesting to note what happens when the same planets\/angles (in the natal charts) get hit by multiple eclipses. <b>If an issue isn&#8217;t resolved during the first eclipse, future eclipses can either lead to a resolution, or &#8220;chip away&#8221; at the weakened area.<\/b> Maybe Mike and Sarah aren&#8217;t able to resolve their differences (that were triggered by the Solar Eclipse), and a couple of years later a Lunar Eclipse conjuncts Mike&#8217;s 7th House Venus in Leo. Now we have a possible ending to the relationship.<\/p>\n<p>Eclipses are most likely to impact your relationship if they aspect your angles (cusps of the 1st, 4th, 7th or 10th Houses), planets in\/ruler of your 7th House, or your Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars. <b>They can usher in major changes to long-term relationships, but they&#8217;re not necessarily portents of doom.<\/b> They are powerful initiators of transformation, but everything must be read in the context of what&#8217;s happening in your chart, as well as the existing status of your relationship.
