It&#8217;s true that natal planets, transits and progressions in this house will have a definite impact on your intimate life. But did you know that your 2nd House tells another part of the story? It&#8217;s not all about the 8th. If you want to see the entire picture of what makes you tick in the bedroom, you need to look at both houses.<\/p>\n<p>The 2nd House is about self-sufficiency and security. It&#8217;s associated with money and self-esteem, but its themes of preservation apply to sex as well. This house represents the physical act: sex for procreation, and because it feels good. No more, no less. It&#8217;s where you get your needs met. The 8th House goes deeper; it&#8217;s about intimacy. The energy that you exchange with your partner, the loss of control, and pushing past boundaries is what happens in the 8th. <b>2nd House sex is about feeling safe, 8th House sex is about feeling exposed.<\/b><\/p>\n<h2>Security vs. Discovery<\/h2>\n<p>Bonnie has natal Mars in her 2nd House, and she uses sex as a way to ground herself. The physical act still involves her partner, but she uses it to reassure herself that everything&#8217;s OK after a fight or a period of separation. The primary motivation is to make Bonnie feel secure; she knows what works for her (sexually) and she keeps going back to that. Move that natal Mars into the 8th House, and Bonnie becomes someone who views sex as a vehicle of discovery (through the intensity of her connection with her partner). She may be interested in breaking taboos, or figuring out how much power she has (or how much power her partner has). She still knows what works for her, but she&#8217;s not content to leave it at that. Sex can become a compulsion, because she&#8217;s always chasing that intensity.<\/p>\n<h2>Uranian Disruption<\/h2>\n<p><div\nstyle=\"float:left;margin-right:20px\"><script type=\"text\/javascript\">google_ad_client = \"ca-pub-1123809225180052\";\n\/* rectangle in post *\/\ngoogle_ad_slot = \"6756871618\";\ngoogle_ad_width = 300;\ngoogle_ad_height = 250;<\/script> <script type=\"text\/javascript\"\nsrc=\"http:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/show_ads.js\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>But not all natal planets in the 8th can create the urge to explore sexual limits. Mark has an 8th House Uranus (shock and disruption); he experienced sexual trauma as a child (note this is only one possible manifestation of Uranus in the 8th). His <em>trust<\/em> was disrupted, and now Uranus gives him the ability to detach from what he&#8217;s feeling during sex (as a safety mechanism). Mark skips over the sharing\/merging part by standing back (in his mind) and watching what&#8217;s happening from a safe distance. Put Uranus in his 2nd House, and Mark&#8217;s <em>physical security<\/em> may have been disrupted. Something (or someone) he relied on was yanked away. Mark may become an outsider in the way he meets his sexual needs. What works for him, works for him alone, and anyone who doesn&#8217;t like it can move along. He may feel safer by declaring his sexual independence, in whatever form that takes. No one can make him vulnerable if they can&#8217;t touch him.<\/p>\n<h2>Occupied or Empty Houses<\/h2>\n<p>What if someone has planets in both houses? It strongly depends on what those planets are. Someone with Saturn in the 8th and Venus in the 2nd might have a set of rules (Saturn) when she expresses her sexual needs (2nd House Venus) with another (8th House). Those rules may formalize her sex life, or shut it down completely. Jupiter in the 2nd and Venus in the 8th may create an insatiable hunger (2nd House Jupiter). Jupiter&#8217;s energy of abundance gives her a significant appetite, which she tries to satisfy with all-or-nothing sexual encounters, one parter at a time (Venus in the 8th).<\/p>\n<p>If your 2nd\/8th Houses are empty, don&#8217;t feel left out. They will be activated throughout your life by transits and progressions. Pay attention to changes in how you relate to your partner, versus how you meet your needs. For example, a Pluto transit of the 8th House can tear down barriers in your sex life, uncover issues with your partner, or draw attention to your intimacy fears. How do your personal needs change (2nd House) as a response? If Jupiter transits your 2nd House, your sex drive may get a boost because you&#8217;re feeling good and you want more. Do you have more to give to your partner (8th House) as a result?<\/p>\n<p>So that&#8217;s the 2nd\/8th House sexual polarity. It starts with the 2nd: survival, procreation, no frills sex. And it expands into the 8th: sharing, merging, learning to trust another when you&#8217;re most vulnerable.
