Although it is frequently called an advanced technique, its premise is quite simple to grasp, and hopefully will be of interest to this blog\u2019s readers.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><b>Definition of Astrological Midpoints<\/b><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">The base premise of midpoint interpretation is this: \u201cA planet located equidistant from two other planets (i.e. <i>midpoint<\/i> between two planets) has a relationship to both planets.\u201d&nbsp; In practice we also include the Angles (Ascendant and Midheaven) as well as planets in midpoint interpretation.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<table align=\"center\" cellpadding=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" class=\"tr-caption-container\" style=\"margin-left: auto; This is expressed as:<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">A = B\/C<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\u201cB\/C\u201d denotes the midpoint of B and C.&nbsp; A is the planet or point in the middle (midpoint) of B and C.&nbsp; <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">The equal sign \u201c=\u201d denotes that A makes a contact by a hard aspect (conjunction, square or opposition) to the midpoint of B &amp; C.&nbsp; Hard aspect has to do with life development and change, which is why we only consider the hard aspects for the midpoint interpretation.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Regarding B\/C: Slower (i.e. further from the Sun) planet influences the faster (closer to the Sun) planet.&nbsp; <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Regarding A (the planet aspecting the midpoint): it will affect the midpoint, or be affected by the midpoint \u2013 again, depending on the apparent speed of the planet\u2019s movement&nbsp; (see metaphor below.)<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><b>Metaphors for Interpreting Midpoints <\/b><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Picture yourself as a child, and in between your parents.&nbsp; Being in the middle, you were greatly affected by the quality of their interaction (e.g. were they warm or cold toward each other?&nbsp; Did they argue a lot or ignore each other? Etc.) In the same way, <b>a planet in the midpoint of two other planets that are more powerful (i.e. that have slower orbits) will be greatly affected by their interaction.<\/b><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Now consider another metaphor: This time picture yourself as the adult, sitting between your two children.&nbsp; Just by being in their middle, you affected the quality of their interaction (e.g. they either behaved themselves better, or became more obnoxious toward each other by trying to compete for your attention, etc.)&nbsp; In the same way, <b>a powerful planet in the midpoint of two lesser planets will strongly affect their interaction.<\/b><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><b>Example of Some Midpoints<\/b>:<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><b>Mercury\/Jupiter: Midpoint of Rewarding and Expansive Communication<\/b><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Jupiter (being the slower planet) influences Mercury: &nbsp;So this midpoint represents the experience of being rewarded (Jupiter) for one\u2019s communication.&nbsp; Any planet in hard aspect to this midpoint will carry this sense of expansive communication.&nbsp; This is why <b>MC (midheaven) = Mercury\/Jupiter<\/b> often denotes a professional writer.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><b>Venus\/Mars midpoint: Midpoint of Passionate Involvement<\/b> <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Mars influences Venus:&nbsp; Romance and relationship is heated up, made passionate.&nbsp; This is the midpoint of sexual and artistic passion.&nbsp; Saturn placed at this midpoint (Saturn=Venus\/Mars) will necessitate restraint on passion, whereas Jupiter or Uranus placed here may intensify the passion to excess.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><b>Sun\/Moon midpoint: Midpoint of Relationship Fulfillment<\/b> <\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Sun influences Moon:&nbsp; One\u2019s Reigning Need (Moon) is fueled by Life Energy (Sun).&nbsp; This is the strongest point of individual need fulfillment, and thus it has to do with relationships and self-acceptance on a deep level.&nbsp; Neptune placed at this midpoint (Neptune=Sun\/Moon) may suggest bewildering experiences in relationships, whereas Saturn placed here will necessitate growth and maturity in relationships.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><b>Further Applications: Transit and Solar Arc<\/b><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Even without any natal planet or point to occupy it, a particular midpoint can be activated via transit or solar arc.&nbsp; For instance, a prolonged transit of Uranus to Mercury\/Jupiter midpoint could excite the expansion of communication, perhaps resulting in new ideas or fresh business deals.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">An outer planet transit or solar arc to the Sun\/Moon midpoint often has a deep impact on our relationships and self-image.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><b>How to Calculate Midpoints<\/b><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">You could simply calculate the degree difference between 2 planets or points and divide in half.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Or, you can just use this link for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.noendpress.com\/pvachier\/midpoints\/index.php\">Calculating Midpoints Online<\/a><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">If you have an astrological software that calculates midpoints, you can print a \u201c90 degree sort\u201d table, or \u201cMidpoint Tree\u201d in order to get all midpoint pictures in your natal chart.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><b><\/b><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Usually an orb of 1.5~2.0 degrees is suggested to calculate midpoints.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><b>Summary and Recommendation for Further Study<\/b><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Over the last 7 years I\u2019ve studied well-known works on midpoints interpretation by various astrologers, and use them regularly in my consultation practice.&nbsp; They truly offer a fascinating additional dimension to the interpretation of natal chart and transit &amp; Solar Arc development.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">Because study of midpoints is a huge subject, it would take a lot more than this introductory post to cover adequately.&nbsp; Although it is frequently called an advanced technique, its premise is quite simple to grasp, and hopefully will be of interest to this blog\u2019s readers.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Definition of Astrological Midpoints<\/b><\/div>\n<div>The base premise of midpoint interpretation is this: \u201cA planet located equidistant from two other planets (i.e. <i>midpoint<\/i> between two planets) has a relationship to both planets.\u201d&nbsp; This is expressed as:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>A = B\/C<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\u201cB\/C\u201d denotes the midpoint of B and C.&nbsp; A is the planet or point in the middle (midpoint) of B and C.&nbsp; <\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>The equal sign \u201c=\u201d denotes that A makes a contact by a hard aspect (conjunction, square or opposition) to the midpoint of B &amp; C.&nbsp; Hard aspect has to do with life development and change, which is why we only consider the hard aspects for the midpoint interpretation.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Regarding B\/C: Slower (i.e. further from the Sun) planet influences the faster (closer to the Sun) planet.&nbsp; <\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Regarding A (the planet aspecting the midpoint): it will affect the midpoint, or be affected by the midpoint \u2013 again, depending on the apparent speed of the planet\u2019s movement&nbsp; (see metaphor below.)<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Metaphors for Interpreting Midpoints <\/b><\/div>\n<div>Picture yourself as a child, and in between your parents.&nbsp; Being in the middle, you were greatly affected by the quality of their interaction (e.g. were they warm or cold toward each other?&nbsp; Did they argue a lot or ignore each other? Etc.) In the same way, <b>a planet in the midpoint of two other planets that are more powerful (i.e. that have slower orbits) will be greatly affected by their interaction.<\/b><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Now consider another metaphor: This time picture yourself as the adult, sitting between your two children.&nbsp; Just by being in their middle, you affected the quality of their interaction (e.g. they either behaved themselves better, or became more obnoxious toward each other by trying to compete for your attention, etc.)&nbsp; In the same way, <b>a powerful planet in the midpoint of two lesser planets will strongly affect their interaction.<\/b><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Example of Some Midpoints<\/b>:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Mercury\/Jupiter: Midpoint of Rewarding and Expansive Communication<\/b><\/div>\n<div>Jupiter (being the slower planet) influences Mercury: &nbsp;So this midpoint represents the experience of being rewarded (Jupiter) for one\u2019s communication.&nbsp; Any planet in hard aspect to this midpoint will carry this sense of expansive communication.&nbsp; This is why <b>MC (midheaven) = Mercury\/Jupiter<\/b> often denotes a professional writer.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Venus\/Mars midpoint: Midpoint of Passionate Involvement<\/b> <\/div>\n<div>Mars influences Venus:&nbsp; Romance and relationship is heated up, made passionate.&nbsp; This is the midpoint of sexual and artistic passion.&nbsp; Saturn placed at this midpoint (Saturn=Venus\/Mars) will necessitate restraint on passion, whereas Jupiter or Uranus placed here may intensify the passion to excess.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Sun\/Moon midpoint: Midpoint of Relationship Fulfillment<\/b> <\/div>\n<div>Sun influences Moon:&nbsp; One\u2019s Reigning Need (Moon) is fueled by Life Energy (Sun).&nbsp; This is the strongest point of individual need fulfillment, and thus it has to do with relationships and self-acceptance on a deep level.&nbsp; Neptune placed at this midpoint (Neptune=Sun\/Moon) may suggest bewildering experiences in relationships, whereas Saturn placed here will necessitate growth and maturity in relationships.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Further Applications: Transit and Solar Arc<\/b><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Even without any natal planet or point to occupy it, a particular midpoint can be activated via transit or solar arc.&nbsp; For instance, a prolonged transit of Uranus to Mercury\/Jupiter midpoint could excite the expansion of communication, perhaps resulting in new ideas or fresh business deals.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>An outer planet transit or solar arc to the Sun\/Moon midpoint often has a deep impact on our relationships and self-image.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>How to Calculate Midpoints<\/b><\/div>\n<div>You could simply calculate the degree difference between 2 planets or points and divide in half.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Or, you can just use this link for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.noendpress.com\/pvachier\/midpoints\/index.php\">Calculating Midpoints Online<\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>If you have an astrological software that calculates midpoints, you can print a \u201c90 degree sort\u201d table, or \u201cMidpoint Tree\u201d in order to get all midpoint pictures in your natal chart.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><\/b><\/div>\n<div>Usually an orb of 1.5~2.0 degrees is suggested to calculate midpoints.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>Summary and Recommendation for Further Study<\/b><\/div>\n<div>Over the last 7 years I\u2019ve studied well-known works on midpoints interpretation by various astrologers, and use them regularly in my consultation practice.&nbsp;
