What is Black Moon Lilith?

Black Moon Lilith (BML) is one of the most mysterious and often misunderstood points in an astrological chart. It is not a planet but rather a sensitive point that represents the moon’s apogee, or its furthest point away from the Earth in its orbit. For astrologer Dawn Bodrogi, the Black Moon’s elusive nature makes it challenging to define. However, its influence is potent.

In her foundational article on the topic, Bodrogi explains the distinction between the True (or Oscillating) Black Moon and the Mean Black Moon. She states:

“I’ve always favoured the Mean Black Moon—I’m comfortable with mean measurements in astrology because they seem to represent a concentrated essence of the measurement.”

At its core, Black Moon Lilith represents the antithesis of the Moon’s nurturing energy. Where the Moon seeks comfort and familiarity, BML signifies the raw terror of abandonment and the rage of needs that are not heard or accepted. This is not a logical rage but a visceral instinct, one that takes over the soul. According to Bodrogi:

“It’s instantaneous, it’s blinding, and it takes over the soul and the sensibility to the point where we lose our normal consciousness and we feel nothing but the black rage.”

Yet, this raw power is not without purpose. The only way to tap into Lilith’s positive influence is through a profound sacrifice. As Bodrogi notes:

“The only way we can tap into the great power of Black Moon Lillith is to sacrifice our fears, terrors and hungers.”

Once this surrender is made, BML becomes a powerful conduit for raw, untamed energy. It is deeply connected to occult abilities, healing sexual issues, and the primal forces of the universe.

Navigating Passion and Power

BML is intimately connected to both male and female sexuality. It can manifest as the seductive “femme fatale” or as a source of deep, manipulative power. A dark expression of Lilith is her association with the “castrating mother,” taking sexual power from her children.

With a prominent BML, there can be a tendency towards obsession. Bodrogi argues this is the “hungry child’s” desire to return to comfort. It replaces healthy participation in life with a frantic chase for an elusive object.

Ultimately, Black Moon Lilith is a complex point that cannot be easily categorized. It is a call to explore the dark, hidden mysteries of our psyche. We must confront rage and understand the powerful instinctual forces that drive us. It requires personal research and open-minded exploration to truly comprehend her influence.
